iRobots – Yes, Robots Can Clean Our Houses For Us

RobotsAroundTheHome_Web._V379609982_iRobot started up in the vacuum cleaning business in 2000. They now make a variety of robotic products that make our lives easier. While robotic cleaning systems were originally meant to supplement rather than replace regular cleaning, these newer models remove up to 98% of dirt, dust and pet hair on their own. The cost of the cleaning system can recoup what might otherwise have been spent hiring help. The robots are great for seniors finding cleaning difficult.

iRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robots

Roombas run on a rechargeable NiMH battery lasting an estimated 400 charges (see site link below for tips to extend the battery life), with charge times ranging from as little as three hours on more recent models. A charge gives about two hours of cleaning, time to clean three medium sized rooms.  Roomba uses iRobot’s AWARE(tm) Robotic Intelligence System with minimal human input. When you press “Clean” the Roomba calculates the room size, then starts moving. It uses infrared sensors to avoid drop offs such as stairs. It uses object sensors to tell when it hits something, then backs up, rotates, and moves forward again. It uses a wall sensor to allow it to almost hug the walls and furniture without actually touching them. The iRobots use a pre-set algorithm to determine their own cleaning pattern to achieve complete coverage. If you use a self charger, iRobot will return and connect by itself when its battery is low. Some models will resume cleaning when recharged. Because of their low profile, the ability to clean under furniture is one of the best features of these machines. One year manufactured warranties come with all models.
