Outdoor spaces are now an extension of our homes, and people are getting more creative about how they decorate these ever expanding spaces. We tend to provide comfortable seating arrangements, comfortable dining spots, and our patios and decks are becoming a reflection of our stylish interiors . Here are some 2014 trends in outdoor decorating:
Outdoor seating is trending toward sectionals or conversation-based seating arrangements in neutral natural browns and grays. Fabrics for cushions are often in black and white or bright bold colors like teal or dark purple, with art-deco, chevron or tribal patterns overtaking floral and stripes in terms of popularity. Fire-pit coffee tables are becoming popular for entertaining. Ledge space is also sought after. Many are investing in higher end furniture with a more sophisticated interior look rather than replacing low quality furniture every 2-3 years.
People are buying larger outdoor dining sets often with large square tables, sometimes with fire pits, or eclectic pairings of mismatched furnishings like wicker chairs with a wood or wrought iron table.
Many are investing in outdoor kitchens complete with fridge, grill and counter space, either on a large scale or on a more modest budget. Cabinets are available to turn grills into outdoor islands. Outdoor pizza ovens are also something more people are starting to add to their personal outdoor space, and they can do a lot more than cook pizza!
People are setting a relaxing evening visiting mood with lighting, and incorporating privacy into a more spa-like atmosphere, wanting the feeling of being on a personal vacation in the backyard. Low maintenance plants and water features add to the enjoyment with minimal upkeep. There is a trend toward customizing privacy into the outdoor living space, allowing us to experience the pleasures of the indoors while enjoying the fresh air.
