When I planned my kitchen I looked at as many kitchen magazines as I could, and went to all the highest end sales places I could find, just to get ideas I could hopefully do cheaper, and somewhere along the way I fell in love with microwave drawers. They’re just so cool.
Comparable in price to the over the range models, you install them right where a drawer would be (imagine a deep drawer sitting beside your silverware drawer), and you push an open button and they slide open, then you place your food in it, and press close. Other than that they basically work the same as any other microwave. But they don’t take up counter space, nor are you lifting hot food from above the range down toward yourself, which to me is an accident waiting to happen. Mine is in my island right across from the fridge, a perfect location for warming leftovers or defrosting.
After comparing all other aspects, I decided on a Sharp (current model Sharp KB-6524PS 24-Inch Microwave Drawer Oven, Stainless). OK I admit it, I love the look of this one. And after using it for a year, I have had no troubles, The door glides smoothly. Guests are often confused when they go looking for my microwave, and always enthused when they see it. I think everybody should have one of these, so if you’re contemplating a kitchen renovation or refacing your cupboards, or building new, remember these neat appliances!
