Butcher’s Blocks to Dream About

American Heritage Kitchen Island with Butcher Block Top Base Finish Caviar BlackOne of my visions of things I really want in my home that I didn’t get in this house was a huge John Boos butcher’s block island, adjoining a granite island, sort of like a double island.  In my home I have a huge sink, a dishwasher, a microwave drawer, a bank of drawers, and a little seating area, so there simply wasn’t room left to add on a big butcher’s block island.  But I do use a free standing butcher’s block.   If I had space for it I would have got a 48″ wide version like this American Heritage Kitchen Island with Butcher Block Top Base Finish: Buttercup Yellow, and had my island built adjoining it on the long side.

John Boos

What I think I will do instead is get a portable one on wheels, especially one like this John Boos Stainless Steel Cart with 30 by 20-Inch Removable Maple Top, Stainless Steel Shelves and Casters, with a removable cutting board.  That way I can use just the cutting board, or bring the whole stand up next to my island and just move the table over to the side while I have big kitchen projects to work on.  I could also wheel this one type of stand to the deck when we have company, or put it in the living room with appetizers on it.  In the meantime I am using a good quality thick bamboo cutting board…sigh…and dreaming of John Boos.
