Cool blues such as cobalt, turquoise and ice blue are known for their ability to produce a calming atmosphere in a room, so are well suited for use in rooms we want to relax in, like the bedroom or bathroom. Cool blues have yellow in them and recede, making spaces appear larger. Icy blue and white is very crisp and clean. Aqua blue is associated with healing waters and works especially well in a spa like bathroom. All of the walls in my house are painted a very pale aqua blue, and its amazing what different light effects do with this color. Some rooms look almost white, some closer to green, or robin’s egg blue, or even ivory,
Warm blues such as denim, ocean or slate blue, have a red base that can make a room feel smaller. They make a room feel cozy and are best used in social places like the living room or kitchen. Too much dark blue can produce feelings of sadness but its a great accent color, as evidenced by French country style.
