2014 Super Bowl Party Ideas

super bowl

Super Bowl is all about having fun while watching the game and the half time show on a huge screen with friends, eating (man food), and drinking. Keeping your focus on the object of the party, here are a few tips to make it a success.

Food Ideas

When it comes to food, casual is the way to go, with paper plates and napkins, and a few extra TV tables scattered around so your guests can perch their food while they watch the game. Food can be organized at the dining room table for convenience, but its unlikely the guests will linger there, so if you can get it onto a long table in the media room, better yet. Potluck always works well at these events and saves you a ton of time and work, both in preparation and clean-up, because guests typically take their serving dishes home with them with a bit of food still in them. Don’t be shy about passing out recipe links or dish ideas to keep things fairly coordinated. And do be prepared to have locations for their slow cookers to be plugged in, or their casserole dishes to be popped into an oven.

  2. Restaurant Style Buffalo Chicken Wings
  3. Kittencal’s Best and Easiest Baby Back Ribs
  4. Halftime Chili – I use white kidney beans in my chili
  5. Pigskins in a Blanket
  6. Nachos and Super Bowl Dip
  7. KFC Buttermilk Biscuits
  8. Cheesy Bacon Potato Skins (brown them well)
  9. Bacon Wrapped Smokies
  10. Chocolate Marscapone Brownies
  11. Fannie Farmer’s Classic Baked Macaroni and Cheese – I add a dash of Cayenne to mine to kick it up
  12. Traditional Devilled Eggs – you can’t seem to make enough of these
  13. Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pile up on the buns/butter, chips and dip, and even throw in a salad for good measure, and you’ve got the makings of a great party.

Party Ideas

  1. Design your table runner to look like a football field; just spread out contact paper and draw yard lines with chalk and a ruler. Then leave out the chalk or markers and let your guests strategize their own plays throughout the party.
  2. Hide pom poms or foam fingers under random seats and have the guests see if they are the lucky ones who will get to use them during the party.
  3. Have each guest write their score predictions on a tie-on tag. Tie each tag to a gift basket or prize (something like a beer stein filled with chocolate almonds). Whoever gets the closest wins.
  4. Decorate your home with vintage football gear and encourage your guests to dress in their favorite player-of-the past’s jersey, and also dress in appropriate for the era that player was from.
  5. Offer face paint (see links in decorations below) to allow your guests to decorate their faces in their team’s colors.
  6. Decorate each side of the room with posters or balloons for the opposing teams, and have fans for each team sit on their appropriate side of the room only.
  7. Serve your team-sponsored beer at the party, like Dark Horse Beer for Denver Broncos and Black Hawk Stout for Seattle Seahawks.
